Yaron's research focuses on biomaterial-tissue interactions and investigation of novel therapeutics and platforms to enhance healing and repair in complex inflammatory conditions.

The problem

Complex Tissue Injury and Lack of Effective Repair

A complex diagram of a human body attempting to recover from injury. Boilogical processes described in various callouts within the diagram

Injuries are a ubiquitous fact of life. However, despite multiple millions of new cases each year and several billions of dollars in annual health care costs, there are no effective treatments for many types of complex injuries, such as those in the skin and spinal cord.

Our approach

1. Development of novel biomaterial scaffolds

We engineer biomaterials with enhanced and expanded functionality to promote tissue repair and regeneration.

2. Controlled delivery of bioactives

We develop methods to delivery bioactives with the goal of treating tissues with “the right drug at the right time” in order to stimulate reparative pathways.

3. Identification and development of novel bioactive agents

We reverse engineer dysfunctional signaling observed in diseased states and pro-healing pathways stimulated by biomaterials to facilitate target identification for novel bioactives.
