These cells are useful for investigating macrophage-like behavior, including studying inflammatory cytokine synthesis and secretion, assembly of the inflammasome, immune responses to PAMPs and DAMPs, biomaterial-immune cell interactions, etc.

Culture Medium: RPMI-1640 with 10% FBS, 1% (2 mM) L-Glutamine, and 1% Pen/Strep. ATCC-recommended addition of 0.05 mM 2-mercaptoethanol is not considered necessary by all labs.
Passaging conditions: Change/add medium as necessary to maintain pH, keeping cells between 200,000 and 800,000 cells per mL. Avoid growing to greater than 1 million cell per mL.
Cryopreservation medium: ATCC recommends pH-equilibrated culture medium + 5% ultra-pure DMSO (or 90% FBS and 10% ultra-pure DMSO)
