He obtained his PhD in Applied Science and Engineering (Major: Materials Science and Engineering) at the University of California, Berkeley working with Professor Xiang Zhang where he also completed his postdoctoral study. Prior to his appointment at ASU, he worked as a senior research scientist and manager at the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) at the University of California, Berkeley. His current research centers on light-matter interactions bridging materials science, nanoscience, optical physics and engineering.
