We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PostDoc) position in our research group to support a collaborative project between the three universities across Arizona.
January 25, 2023
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PostDoc) position in our research group to support a collaborative project between the three universities across Arizona (the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University). The project aims to identify areas where water that would otherwise evaporate could be captured for underground storage without affecting surface water flows, and assess the potential to increase water supply availability in Arizona via enhanced recharge of unallocated water sources in both urban and rural areas of the state.
The PostDoc will work closely with Dr. Tianfang Xu at ASU and interact with the tri-university project team to: (1) estimate existing recharge rates through modeling, analysis of instrumented groundwater-supported stream gauges, and field validation as appropriate, (2) assist in developing suitability maps for various recharge alteration/enhancement methods, and (3) prepare reports, peer-reviewed journal publications, and conference presentations. The position is available February 2023, but a later starting date is possible. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D.in Civil/Environmental Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to write computer code in Python, R, MATLAB, or other programming languages.
- Experience in publishing peer-reviewed journal articles.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience with spatially distributed hydrologic models, particularly groundwater models.
- Experience in analyzing large geospatial datasets using statistical methods.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a large team.
