
Ph.D. Student Position in Pavement Mechanics
The Jayme Research Group in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at Arizona State University seeks a highly motivated individual to fill a funded CEE PhD position for Spring/Fall 2026.
Scope of Work
The selected student will engage in research in one or more of the following areas:
– Mechanistic assessment of pavement structures and tire-pavement interaction to understand new and emerging drivers of pavement damage.
– Material design and evaluation of asphalt concrete to address the compounding demands of traffic, environment, and technology.
– Development of practical and implementable tools to better equip transportation agencies in effective and strategic decision-making.

Required Qualifications
– MS degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Infrastructure, or other related fields
– Proficiency in programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
– Experience in pavement material and/or structural analysis research or related topics
– Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
– Strong communication skills (verbal and written), and keen interest in interdisciplinary work
– Satisfies the minimum qualifications set forth by SSEBE ASU admission requirements for graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
– Proficiency in numerical modeling (e.g., finite element method)
– Demonstrated ability to publish high-quality research and work collaboratively
About Jayme Research Group

Dr. Angeli Jayme is an Assistant Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment at ASU. She leads her research group in understanding pavement behavior and its inherent role to balance user and environmental demands, address the emergence of new technologies, and uphold high levels of safety and reliability. Her research group focuses on asphalt material characterization, pavement mechanics, damage quantification, rehabilitation and maintenance planning, smart infrastructure, energy harvesting, and advanced mobility.
